Hello fellow Martin’s volunteers,
Another 40 days have passed since we gave you our last update. As far as the service that we core members are providing, approximately 200 bag lunches per day handed out at the gate, nothing has changed.
However, as you all know, much is changing in the world around us. We are uncertain what these changes mean, or will mean, to how we will be serving our guests in the coming months.
For now, we will continue to do what we have been doing for the past 80 days. We are aware of the high level of vulnerability in our guests, many of whom have underlying health problems that put them at higher risk of contracting the novel coronavirus. With that in mind, we feel that we must err on the side of caution when we consider opening up our space to more volunteers and more group activities.
With that being said, and with the deep knowledge of how very much all of you wish to return to serve this community, we ask that you bear with us. We miss you all and are so grateful for your faithful devotion to Martins, however, we do not want to move too quickly and put anyone in jeopardy.
Our intention is to continue the status quo through the month of July and then close for our annual summer break over the first 10 days of August. When we return we will reassess where we are, how things stand with the pandemic and reach out to you again.
In the meantime, we greatly appreciate all the support you have given us in the form of masks, which we give out every day, donations, which go to defray the additional costs inherent in serving “to go” meals such as paper products, plastic bags and bottled water and generally giving us your love and encouragement.
Gratefully,
The Seven Pandemics
